Who say's TV is bad for kids!?

Here is a conversation between Macy & Mommy from yesterday:
Macy: Come play in my playroom with me, Mom. Vamanos.
Me (surprised): Did you just say 'Vamanos'?!
Macy (smiling): Yes
Me: Where did you learn that?
Macy: Dora!

So in conclusion, not all tv is bad for kids! Apparently there is a lot of teaching and learning that goes on. Thanks to Dora the Explorer, my 2 year old is now bilingual.

Korina Michelle

She's finally here! Korina Michelle Leff made her entrance into our world early in the morning of December 4th. After laboring at home for the afternoon and into the evening, Aaron was finally able to convince Kelly to go to the hospital at about 7:30 Friday night. Once there, we were told that Kelly was already 7cm dilated and the nurses started rushing around thinking delivery was imminent. Labor ended up stalling a bit through the night; however, and little Kori didn't make her arrival until 4:56am on Saturday morning.
Macy was thrilled to meet her "baby sister Korina". She immediately wanted to hold her and give her kisses. Macy is being a wonderful big sister and being very gentle and loving. Korina is proving to be such an easy baby. She is breastfeeding wonderfully and letting Mom & Dad get enough blocks of sleep at a time to maintain our sanity.
Kori looks exactly like Aaron was he was a newborn. Kelly remembered a newborn picture of Aaron at 3 days old and we pulled it out and she looks exactly like him - you wouldn't know the difference! With her dark hair and more olive complextion, she is the total opposite of Macy's very little blonde hair and fair complextion at birth.
We are so happy to have our new bundle of joy just in time for Christmas!

Yo Gabba Gabba Live

Macy's favorite show came to Sacramento for a live appearance. Of course, we paid the outrageous online service fee for tickets and yesterday was the big show. I think Aaron and I were just as excited, if not more so, than Macy. The highlight for Macy was when a few of the characters entered from the back of the crowd and made their way to the stage. We were up a level so we weren't able to get too close but I think at that point, she realized they were really there in real life and started squeeling with excitement. The highlight for the parents, other than sharing the joy with the kids, was when Biz Markie (a rapper from the late 80's/early 90's) who makes regular appearances on the show, came out on stage. The father in front of us, perked up all of the sudden and shouted out "No Way!". When Biz asked if any kids wanted to help him with his beat boxing, the Mom next to me shouted "I do!"

Macy is 2!

Macy had an early birthday celebration at the park with friends. It was Yo Gabba Gabba themed (the cake is DJ Lance's Boom Box which my friend and I decorated).

Boy or Girl???

Tiny fingers, tiny toes,
little itty bitty clothes.
Dresses, dolls, hair and curls.

Swim Class

The last couple of weeks, I have been taking Macy to parent participation swim classes. She has had so much fun and really enjoys it. She has learned to kick her legs, move her arms, blow bubbles, jump into the pool and climb out of the side of the pool. The instructor and other parents commented on how quickly she was catching on. I'm thinking continued lessons = swimming scholarship! :o)

Here is a picture from her last day (minus one of her friends who missed class this day). She received a certificate of completion.

Macy's first baseball game

Saturday evening we took Macy to her very first Major League baseball game to watch the Giants play. I think it was probably a little too soon for her to enjoy because she didn't sit still for a minute!

It's Official!

The official due date for Baby Leff #2 is November 29th! Aaron is hoping for a shared birthday as his is on the 25th. We had an ultrasound last week and got to see a healthy and active little baby. I showed the pictures to Macy and told her it was a baby. The pictures are now on our fridge next to a picture of herself. She looks at them sometimes and says "Baby" and then at her own picture and says "Macy". Kelly is feeling much better now that she has begun her second trimester, and starting to get back into her old routines again. We received news yesterday that Kelly's cousin Jeff and his wife, Mary are expecting their first baby due only days apart at the beginning of December. We are so happy for them and only wish we lived closer (they live in Chicago).

Macy is 19 months and we are enjoying every minute of it. Kelly started a journal where she writes down all the cute things that Macy says or does. Yesterday, after brushing her teeth - which she now demands to do herself - she waved at herself in the mirror and said "Bye Macy". She is talking up a storm lately. Sometimes it is only gibberish but often times she surprises us with a new word that we haven't heard her say before. Whenever Kelly is cooking she says "I see, I see" and wants to be picked up so that she can watch what I am doing. Cute? Yes. But makes it twice as long to make dinner!

Our scanner is not working so we are not able to share the ultrasound pictures right now but will try to get them online soon.

Macy's Big News

Macy has some exciting family news that she would like to share with all of her friends and family.
Drum roll please....... Macy is going to be a big sister!!!!!!!
Sometime shortly after Thanksgiving, Macy will welcome a new baby brother or sister. We are all very excited and to be completely honest, a little nervous too!
Kelly has been feeling pretty ill the past several weeks. I'm not sure why they call it "morning sickness" when it lasts all day long. The past several days she has started to feel a little better and once she hits the 12 week mark, she is hoping the sickness will go away as it did when she was pregnant with Macy.
We are very happy to share this news with you and will be sure to continue the updates over the next several months.

Growing Up

At almost 16 months old, Macy is keeping us on our toes. Just when we get something "Macy-proofed" she finds some new type of danger for us to worry about. This morning, I let her play with one of our water bottles. This brilliant little girl walks over to the refrigerator and held it up to the water dispenser and proceeded to to stream water all down the refrigerator door creating a pool of water on the floor. And of course, when I took the water bottle away to clean up, she was not happy about it.

She continues to amaze us daily with her knowledge and vocabulary. Just a few days ago she pointed to a Sesame Street book and said "Elmo". Sure enough, she was pointing at Elmo! That was a real surprise since we don't watch much Sesame Street and she doesn't have any Elmo toys (other than the one book). She communicates very well using the baby sign language that we have taught her (please, thank you, more, milk, eat, help, stickers, touchdown,). Yesterday she spoke the word "please" for the very first time! We couldn't believe our ears and made her say it over and over again. Other words that she says regularly are: Mommy, Daddy, Doggy, hat, eyes, ball, help, paci.

She is also learning the difficult lesson of obeying. We've started putting her in time outs for not listening to us. Most of the times, these are a result of playing too rough with the dogs - on her part. The first several times in time out were pretty exhausting... for us! She didn't understand the concept right away and would just get right back up and run away from us thinking it was a game. Eventually, after what seemed like a time out marathon, she got the point and sat in time out for one whole minute. She still has her moments when she will try to get up but she gets the point sooner, rather than later and will sit there until the timer goes off.

Macy and I are keeping ourselve busy with our play group and making lots of great friends for both of us. She has a regular group of friends that she is learning the "rules of life" with. I believe one little boy has decided that she is his girlfriend. Every time we see him, he runs right up to her and says "MACY!!". Last week we took a field trip to the Train Museum. I think the little boys were a little more excited by the "Choo-Choo's"; but Macy did enjoy looking at the mini-trains on the tracks and running all over the museum. Next week we will be going to the Discovery Science & Space museum with the group. It is a hands on learning environment for kids and should be very fun.

Macy has decided this post is over as she is standing on the couch next to me poking me in the head. So, I'm off to play with her in her tunnel that she got for Christmas.

Happy Valentines Day

Family Photos

I have a friend who is trying to start up her own photography business. She needed some "models" to build up her portfolio so she offered to take some family photos for us at no cost and then provided us with all the pictures she took! Can't get much better than that. Her style is anything but traditional -- I really like it. She captured some really cute moments. So here you go, the Leff Family of models:
